How to Access SSH on Shared Hosting

Our Shared Hosting service supports SSH access, allowing you to manage your hosting account through a secure command-line connection.

This guide explains how to connect to your Shared Hosting account using SSH with PuTTY or Bitvise SSH Client.

1. Requirements for SSH Access

Before connecting, make sure you have the following details:

  • Hostname: Your server IP address, provided under Package Details in your hosting account information email.

  • SSH Port: 22

  • Username: Your Shared Hosting username.

  • Password: Your Shared Hosting account password.

Please ensure that SSH access is enabled for your hosting account.

2. Download an SSH Client

You can use either of the following SSH clients to connect to your Shared Hosting account.

Download and install your preferred SSH client before proceeding.

3. How to Connect Using PuTTY

  1. Download and open PuTTY.

  2. Enter your hosting server's hostname or IP address in the Host Name field.

  3. Set the Port to 22.

  4. Select SSH as the connection type.

  5. Click Open to establish the connection.

  6. When prompted, enter your Shared Hosting username.

  7. Enter your Shared Hosting password when requested.

Note: Your password may not appear on the screen while typing. This is normal behavior for SSH connections.

4. How to Connect Using Bitvise SSH Client

  1. Download and install Bitvise SSH Client.

  2. Open Bitvise SSH Client.

  3. Enter your server hostname or IP address in the Host field.

  4. Set the Port to 22.

  5. Select password-based authentication.

  6. Enter your Shared Hosting username and password.

  7. Click Log in to connect.

Once authentication is successful, you can use SSH commands permitted within your hosting account.

5. DirectAdmin Terminal Availability

Please note that our DirectAdmin control panel does not include a built-in Terminal interface.

To access the command line, you must use an external SSH client such as PuTTY or Bitvise SSH Client.

SSH commands cannot be executed directly through the DirectAdmin panel.

6. Important Shared Hosting Limitations

  • No Root Access: Root or administrator-level server access is not provided with our Shared Hosting plans.

  • Account-Level Access: SSH access is restricted to your hosting account and its permitted resources.

  • No System-Level Changes: You cannot modify system-wide server settings or perform root-level operations.

  • Resource Limits: All activities must comply with the resource limits and restrictions of your hosting plan.

  • SSH Availability: SSH access must be enabled for your hosting account.

7. Troubleshooting SSH Connection Issues

If you cannot connect to SSH, please check the following:

  • Verify that your server hostname or IP address is correct.

  • Confirm that the SSH port is set to 22.

  • Make sure your Shared Hosting username and password are correct.

  • Ensure that SSH access is enabled for your account.

  • Check whether your network or firewall is blocking the connection.

If the issue persists, please submit a support ticket with the connection error message so our support team can assist you.
